Farther Than Before

By Sadie Lovett

Florence

The sun will wink

a last goodbye

as she begins to rise

I’ll wipe

my fettered tears away,

Confine them

with my lies

Each word

that bends itself

from mind to mouth to ear

Will tell her of

a day that’s kind,

so mine might disappear
