Extinction

By Sadie Lovett

Florence

Christ’s living breath forgotten

as cathedral doors sealed shut

The organist no longer played,

his savior’s lungs to rot

Each nail in wood entombed

A bond they chose to fear

As sinners hid their lamb away

salvation disappeared
